Genetic Test Results
Today is Metastatic Awareness Day. So I thought I would share my genetic test results.
Many have wondered if the reason I got breast cancer was because I had the BRCA genetic mutation. The answer is NO.
I was screened for a panel of 25 different genetic mutations and tested negative for 24 of the mutations. A mutation was found on the ATM gene, but this mutation has not yet been determined to cause breast cancer. As more research is completed, we may learn whether this mutation may or may not be a genetic cause of breast cancer.
If you are interested in learning more about genetics and breast cancer, you can download or order an excellent booklet from Living Beyond Breast Cancer
