Happy Thanksgiving
This is the 9th Thanksgiving since my diagnosis and I am especially thankful this year. In September, my PET-CT scan results were devastating: the cancer had returned very aggressively and my liver was almost completely covered with cancer. A few weeks later, a brain MRI showed I now had 8 small brain lesions. Despite this terrible news, I was very hopeful because my oncologist now prescribed a new drug (Enhertu) that had just been approved. It looks like it is working: my tumor markers are dropping and my liver bloodwork is back to normal levels.
This Thanksgiving, I am thankful to still be alive and to learn my cancer is retreating.
I am thankful for my wonderful oncologist who keeps finding new ways to stop the cancer when treatments stop working.
I am thankful for the many caring nurses and techs who have taken care of me.
I am thankful for the research scientists who developed the treatments that made this possible.
I am thankful for charities like Breast Cancer Research Foundation, The Pink Agenda, and Dancers Care Foundation that raise funds for cancer research and the generosity of their donors.
I am thankful for my Pomeranians Momma Mia and Kennie who have comforted me, made me laugh, and helped me to see the beauty of life and living fully in the moment.
I am especially thankful for prayers and messages of encouragement and support. They kept me going during a very dark time for me.
Happy Thanksgiving!
