Fab-U-Wish

A breast cancer diagnosis is devastating and life-changing. There are many gloomy days when I, like many cancer patients, cover up with a smile so that folks close to us don’t worry. Nice surprises are the best way to banish a gloomy day. Today, I got a wonderful surprise courtesy of The Pink Agenda and Fab-U-Wish, a non-profit whose missions are breast cancer research and lifting the spirits of young breast cancer patients by making them feel fabulous through fashion. Fab-U-Wish made a 10-year dream of mine come true. When I was 14 years old, I bought a Louis Vuitton knock-off bag from a street vendor. I didn’t have enough money to meet his price, so somehow, I managed to persuade him to lower it. That bag was one of my most treasured possessions, and it went everywhere with me for several years. Even after it wore out, I could not bring myself to part with it, so I just put it on a shelf in my closet dreaming that one day, I will save enough money to buy a real Louis Vuitton. As the years passed, other needs came along for my savings and after my breast cancer diagnosis, I pretty much gave up on that dream. Lucky for me, my mom remembered my dream and nominated me when she learned about Fab-U-Wish. Today, I got a REAL Louis Vuitton bag from The Pink Agenda and Fab-U-Wish. It is something I will treasure for the rest of my life and I am extremely grateful for such a wonderful gift.

If you know a young woman with breast cancer, please consider nominating her for Fab-U-Wish.
