“It takes a long time to become young

“It takes a long time to become young.” This was Picasso’s reply to someone who asked why his early works were formal and later paintings were informal, bright, and colorful.

After my diagnosis, it took me awhile to mourn the loss of all that cancer had taken from me: my career as a dancer, my breasts, my hair, my ovaries and uterus, my energy, my flexibility. Those moments of grief made me realize how precious life is and how grateful I was that my treatments were working and that maybe I could beat the medical prognosis of living only 2-3 years with MBC.

My wardrobe choices reflect my changing attitude. After diagnosis, I chose clothing in neutral colors. But my style changed over time and now I love to wear bright colors and prints.

Now I try to fill each day with joyful moments – playing with my dogs; helping my students master ballet steps; teaching Momma Mia tricks so she could earn her Advanced Trick Dog Title; preparing a delicious meal; and planning visits to Walt Disney World.

A lot has changed over the past couple of years but I am grateful to be a live and thriving.

I AM YOUNG!!
